Full Job Description

Job Title: Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapy Lead

About the Role

SEND is seeking a confident and experienced Occupational Therapist or potential Occupational Therapy Lead to join a dedicated therapy team at a specialist SEND school. The ideal candidate will be sensory integration trained and have experience working in schools with SEND pupils, particularly those with Autism. The pupils often have associated learning difficulties, including Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, as well as anxiety issues.

The post holder will work collaboratively to deliver bespoke assessment and intervention plans for our pupils.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment & Reporting: Conduct assessments, write reports, and outline support strategies.
  • Interventions: Plan and deliver individualised and group interventions.
  • Collaboration: Work with pupils, support networks, and agencies to communicate and meet needs.
  • Training & Advice: Train staff and provide specialist strategy advice.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and report on pupil progress.
  • Environmental Audits: Ensure learning environments meet pupils’ needs.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate and support the Therapy Team, our Multi-Disciplinary Team, and school staff.

You will be responsible for holding an Occupational Therapy caseload alongside other OTs. With the full support of our well-established and knowledgeable Therapy Team, you will also contribute to staff training, consultation, and reflective practice. Both a challenging and rewarding role, this position would suit a resilient and enthusiastic individual with a therapeutic approach and the ability to make decisions and manage their own workload.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable success in offering Occupational Therapy Services to children with ASC.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • HCPC Registered.
  • Sensory Integration trained.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proactive in proposing service development.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A flexible, ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Ability to engage children with SEND/ASC needs.

About the School

This incredible school is in a mixed 7-19, local authority-funded, SEND day school for children, most of whom are able learners with an EHCP and a diagnosis of ASC and associated needs. Every pupil is valued and treated as an individual with respect. Our team has extensive experience and expertise in special education and therapeutic support for pupils whose needs can no longer be met in a mainstream provision. Our vision is to nurture aspiration, develop resilience, and empower learning, centered on our single desire to make a positive, lifelong difference in the lives of pupils.
