Job Title: Special Education Needs (SEN) Support Assistant

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Support Assistant to join our team. This position is specifically designed to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), who present with very complex needs and challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing individualized support, fostering a positive learning environment, and promoting the overall well-being of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individualized Support:
- Work closely with teaching staff and SENCO to implement individualized education and behaviour plans for students with SEMH and complex needs.
- Provide one-on-one support to students, adapting teaching materials and strategies to meet their specific learning styles and abilities.
- Foster positive relationships with students to encourage social and emotional development.
- Behaviour Management:
- Implement behaviour management strategies in collaboration with the school’s behaviour policy.
- Monitor and record student behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and SENCO.
- Intervene and de-escalate challenging situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create a cohesive and inclusive learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, providing updates on student progress and strategies for continued support at home.
- Adaptability and Flexibility:
- Demonstrate flexibility in responding to the diverse and evolving needs of students.
- Be open to learning and implementing new strategies and interventions as directed by the SENCO and other professionals.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, behaviour incidents, and any interventions implemented.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports for annual reviews and meetings with parents and external agencies.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience working in a similar role within a SEND school or similar setting is highly desirable.
- Understanding of SEMH and other complex needs in children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively manage challenging behaviour.
- A patient and empathetic approach to working with children with diverse needs.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or special education are advantageous.
Job Types: Full-time, Temp to perm
Pay: £75.00-£80.00 per day
