Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEND, assisting them in accessing the curriculum and achieving their learning goals.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social and emotional development among students with SEND.
  • Assist in the assessment and monitoring of students’ progress, keeping detailed records and providing feedback to the teaching team and parents/guardians.
  • Support students during transitions between activities and locations within the school, ensuring a smooth and secure experience.
  • Work closely with external professionals, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists, to implement recommended strategies and interventions.
  • Promote independence and develop life skills among students with SEND, empowering them to participate actively in the school community.
  • Attend relevant training sessions and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in SEND education.
  • Collaborate with other teaching assistants and school staff to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children and young people with SEND in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of different learning styles and a range of strategies to support students with diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational and emotional development of students with SEND.
  • An understanding of relevant legislation and policies related to SEND, including the SEND Code of Practice.
  • A relevant qualification in education, special education, or a related field is desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.
