We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant to join The team starting in September.
Role Overview:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support students with special educational needs and disabilities. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that these students receive the tailored support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEND.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Adapt teaching materials to meet the specific needs of students.
- Support classroom management and behavior strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff to monitor and assess student progress.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Provide support during extracurricular activities and school trips as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and report to relevant staff members and parents.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant.
- Relevant qualifications in education or special educational needs (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of various SEND conditions and effective support strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
- Experience in using Makaton, PECS, or other communication aids.
- Training in specific SEND interventions or therapies.
- Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
