Support Students Facing Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA)

Are you a compassionate and dedicated teacher looking for a flexible and meaningful way to help children reconnect with education?

At the Specialist SEND Group, we are committed to supporting students who are struggling to attend school due to Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA) also known as Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) or school refusal. Unlike truancy, which may be linked to anti-social behaviour, EBSNA is often rooted in anxiety, emotional distress, and underlying SEND needs, requiring a nurturing and highly individualised approach.

We are looking for understanding, patient, and resilient educators to provide one-to-one, tailored learning support for students in the Warrington area who are facing barriers to traditional schooling. Many of these young people experience:
Separation anxiety
Trauma or past negative school experiences
Interpersonal difficulties and social anxiety
Sensory processing challenges
Autism Spectrum diagnoses or other SEND needs
Developmental challenges affecting school engagement

Your Role

As a Specialist SEND Tutor, you will play a vital role in:
Rebuilding confidence – Helping students regain trust in learning through a positive, supportive approach.
Providing tailored lessons – Creating engaging, student-centred learning plans based on individual interests.
Offering emotional support – Recognising the emotional barriers to attendance and adapting strategies accordingly.
Encouraging gradual reintegration – Supporting students in transitioning back into education at a pace that suits them.

What We Offer

Flexible working hours to fit both your schedule and the student’s needs.
Paid PPA time to plan and prepare effective, engaging lessons.
Access to Twinkl online resources for high-quality teaching materials.
Work-from-home options for online learning support.
Opportunities for additional referrals through our Specialist SEND Tutoring service.
